it’s like a fire

Okay so you and your kids can’t stop singing: “It’s like a Fire, Fire, shut up in my bones”. You’ve seen the epic music video and you’re wondering how J209 and Josh Sales pulled that off. Well here I am to give you the real story of what went on (aka “the tea”).

Just the beginning…

We started the day by meeting at the First Baptist Church in SLC. I (Hailey) realized that I had been to that church a few months earlier to attend Christmas mass with my family. It is such a beautiful building with a larger chapel and smaller one which we ended up filming in. I have to give a huge shout out to Josh Sales our amazing videographer for going along with our crazy concepts and making them better than we could have imagined. After getting all ready in our costumes and makeup we filmed for a few hours singing in the pews, walking down the aisle, and on the pulpit stairs.

Skull Valley

Our next stop was Skull Valley to catch the sunset and attempt a bonfire. It was a crazy, bumpy, muddy drive that was accompanied by Ethan’s rendition of his love story with his wife Jenny. After braving the roads and making interesting turns to avoid puddles, we made it lone rock where we wanted to film. The only problem was that there were very high winds and we were planning to do a bonfire... the song is called Fire after all. We ended up having to reschedule the bonfire shoot but a few of us had a good time scaling the rock to see the view.

Second attempt

Rather than make it for sunset we decided to try to beat the sunrise on our second attempt. We gathered into the band van at 5 AM and started the hour drive back to Skull Valley. Abi and Kim were on their way with a truck full of firewood for the bonfire. But turns out they accidentally headed in the wrong direction and didn’t get to us until hours later at 8:30. We ended up having to film some shots without them around smaller fires and hoped that they would make it before the sun fully rose. Our hope was not in vain because they showed up just in the nick of time and with our combined efforts we frantically built a bonfire.

Bonfire bash

We didn’t have very much time at all to film before the bonfire collapsed so we had to act fast. Josh got out his cameras and drone and was hyping us up with his excitement of how the shots were turning out. Near the end of the bonfire’s life, Jimmy had to squirt some gasoline onto the fire from the side as Josh filmed; it worked! We used an intense amount of gallons of water to be the good citizens that we are and completely put out the fire. All of the unexpected turns made for a fun memorable experience. Watch the music video and let me know if you think it was worth it ;)
